About Park City, Utah

Nestled in the heart of Utah’s picturesque Wasatch Mountain Range, Park City lies just 30 miles East of downtown Salt Lake City and is home to three world-class ski resorts: The Canyons Resort, Deer Valley Resort and Park City Mountain Resort (the latter two resorts were major locations for ski and snowboarding events during the 2002 Winter Olympics). Originally founded as a silver mining town in 1869, Park City has evolved into a luxurious mountain resort getaway. Winter temperatures in Park City average between 24 and 33 degrees Fahrenheit (average snowfall is 143 inches in town and 350 inches at the resorts); summers average 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Outdoor recreational activities include skiing, snowboarding, bobsledding, ski jumping, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, snow tubing, ice skating, hiking, mountain biking, golfing, tennis, river rafting, fly fishing, horseback riding and hot air ballooning.

Once a successful silver mining town during the mid-19th century, the Park City commercial district was totally destroyed in the “Great Fire” of 1898. The town was completely rebuilt by the early 1920s, retaining its look as a picturesque mining town. Today, Park City’s Historic Main Street features 64 buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places, quaint specialty shops, fine dining establishments and bars, art galleries and antique stores. Moviemakers, studio executives and film buffs from around the world flock to Park City each January for the annual Sundance Film Festival, the largest independent film festival in the United States.

Park City Skiing & Outdoor Recreation

Skiing dominates winter activity in Park City and all of the action revolves around the area’s three world-class ski resorts: The Canyons Resort, Deer Valley Resort and Park City Mountain Resort. The largest single ski resort in Utah, The Canyons Resort features 3,700 acres of diverse terrain over eight mountains, accessing 163 trails. The Deer Valley Resort boasts world-class skiing on white-powdered slopes, as well as cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobile tours, old-fashioned sleigh rides and even heli-skiing. Consistently ranked among the top 10 mountain resorts in North America, Park City Mountain Resort offers 3,300 acres of diverse terrain, 107 ski trails, 16 lifts and a 3,100-foot vertical drop. Other notable area ski resorts include Brighton Ski Resort, Solitude Mountain Resort, Alta Ski Area and Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort, all located within 30 minutes of the Salt Lake City International Airport.

Utah Olympic Park, site of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, has been converted into a community facility with public skating, cross-country skiing, bobsled-luge rides, ski jumping, tubing and aerial bungee jumping. Ski jumping lessons are also available at Utah Olympic Park. Don’t miss a chance to visit the George Eccles 2002 Olympic Winter Games Museum. Nestled in Utah’s beautiful Heber Valley, 22,000-acre Wasatch Mountain State Park is Utah’s most developed park. Abundant opportunities exist for picnicking, hiking, camping, horseback riding, all-terrain vehicle, Nordic skiing, snowmobiling and hunting in season.

In addition, the abundance of championship golf courses in the Park City area, along with the beautiful mountain scenery, combine to make for the ultimate golf vacation getaway. Notable Park City area courses include Jeremy Golf & Country Club, Park City Golf Course, Homestead Resort Golf Course, Soldier Hollow Golf Course, the Jack Nicklaus-designed Park Meadows Golf Course, Wasatch Mountain Golf and Pete Dye Canyon Golf Course.
